FARM

"Earth’s Esse is a 400-acre regenerative farm located in the Bajju tehsil of Bikaner, Rajasthan. Run by Desertgrow Agrifoods LLP, a Jaipur-based sustainable agriculture company, the farm is a model for desert regeneration, ecological conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture."

Water Conservation at Earth’s Esse

Four Artificial Ponds with a Combined Capacity of 80 Million Litres

Water is the most precious resource in the desert, and at Earth’s Esse, we take its conservation very seriously. To support our sustainable farming practices and help regenerate the fragile desert ecosystem, we have constructed four large artificial ponds with a total water storage capacity of 80 million litres (8 crore litres).

Purpose and Impact

These ponds serve multiple vital functions:

  • Rainwater Harvesting: Capturing scarce and seasonal rainfall to store for dry periods, reducing reliance on groundwater and external water sources.
  • Irrigation Support: Providing a reliable water source for our crops, trees, and medicinal plants throughout the year, even during prolonged droughts.
  • Microclimate Regulation: Large water bodies help moderate temperature extremes and increase local humidity, creating a more favorable microclimate for plant growth and biodiversity.
  • Wildlife Habitat: The ponds attract native birds, insects, and other wildlife, enriching the farm’s biodiversity and supporting natural pest control.
  • Groundwater Recharge: By allowing slow percolation, these ponds help replenish underground aquifers, ensuring long-term water availability.
